Scottsdale Tooth Colored FillingsWe have been using tooth colored fillings for at least 20 years in response to the controversy regarding the mercury content within traditional dental silver fillings. The American Dental Association vehemently claims they are safe to this day. But if mercury is found anywhere in the environment, it seems to be a major issue. Could it be the only safe place for mercury is in the mouth? At Desert Smiles we regard our patient's health too greatly to take that chance.

In an effort to constantly improve the quality of tooth colored fillings, we have recently switched to the Sonicfill system from Kerr Dental. Our technique for many years has been to incrementally build white fillings due to the shrinkage of the material being too great to place all in one setting with the laser we use to bond it to the tooth. The technique has been tremendously successful and we have placed thousand of beautiful and long-lasting restorations. But the layering takes extra time for our patients to be in the dental chair.

The new technology of the Sonicfill composite allows placement and setting of the entire restoration all at once. It is delivered with an ultrasonic hand piece which allows the material to be in a flowable state as it fills the prepared cavity in the tooth. Once filled, the material assumes a more viscous state. The material allows penetration of the laser curing light to a depth of 6 mm which insures uniform setting throughout. Being placed in one setting saves time for our patients but also eliminates the possibility of voids being incorporated with the layers in the previous technique. The material comes in a variety of popular shades and is very esthetic once polished.

Great uses of this material and all teeth colored fillings are for new areas of decay or to replace small to moderate sized silver fillings. Not only will you mouth look cleaner and more natural without the dark mercury fillings, the bonding process of the composite material will strengthen your tooth and make it less likely to fracture.

If you would like a to restore a cavity and prevent further decay with a natural appearance, contact our Phoenix cosmetic dentist today for an individualized white filling consultation. We happily welcome patients from Phoenix, Scottsdale, Peoria, Glendale and surrounding areas in Arizona.
