Last week Dr. Wilcox spent three days at the renowned Las Vegas Institute for Advance Dental Studies attending a course on the Pysiologic Approach to Dental Sleep Medicine. Dentists from the USA, Canada, and Australia were in attendance. Dr. Anne-Maree Cole from Australia, Dr. Sahag Mahsersijan from Montreal, and Dr. Norman Thomas from Canada also were the main presenters along with several others. The conference centered on the physiology of sleep apnea and how we can be more effective in solving snoring and sleep apnea problems with oral appliances (dental mouthpieces). A new technique of taking bites for the appliances was presented along with extensive scientific documentation of its benefits in greater efficacy of the appliance and less side effects. The latest advances in the design and use of the Somnomed appliance was presented as well. At the Arizona Center for Dental Sleep Medicine we are constantly seeking information from the latest research and new appliance techniques to provide an even higher level of care for our Phoenix snoring and sleep apnea patients. If you or your bed partner are concerned with snoring or sleep apnea, or have been unable to wear a CPAP successfully, contact us for a complimentary consultation to see if you are a candidate for the solutions dental devices can provide. In many cases, a significant amount of the cost is covered by medical insurance, which we provide all the billing for our patients.
