The fourth annual Mission of Mercy was held this past week for two days at the Veterans Memorial Colesium.  The event is sponsored by the Arizona Dental Association and provides free dental services to the homeless and those unable to financially afford traditional dental care.  DesertSmiles was blessed to contribute for our fourth consecutive year.

Ruth who takes great care of our patients at the front desk, and her husband Lon worked many hours the day prior to the event helping to set up equipment and get several hundred patients processed for the next morning to receive their treatment.  Many of these patients camp out at the colesium days in advance to receive care.

Dr. Donald Wilcox was there at 6am the next morning helping treat as many patients as possible during the day.  The last patient of the day embodies the fact that we receive much more back than we can give.  She had severly decayed front teeth causing pain and obviously preventing her from being able to smile the way most of us take for granted.  After a long session of root canals and cosmetic bonding to rebuild the teeth was completed, she wanted a mirror.  When she saw the dramatic change she responded, “Thanks to you I am going to have a great Christmas.”

All of us at DesertSmies thank our many wonderful patients for the opportunity to provide your dental care.  May your Christmas be healthy and a time of great joy.
