The placing of your custom dental implants requires two procedures.

First, Phoenix, Arizona, implant dentist Dr. Donald Wilcox will surgically insert the titanium post, which will act as your replacement “root.” This post is placed in an outpatient procedure and will anchor your eventual replacement tooth.

After the dental implant post is placed, your body will need time for your jaw bone to heal and fuse around the post. This process is known as osseointegration, and it typically takes between three and six months, depending on individual characteristics and whether bone grafting was required.

Osseointegration is the longest portion of the dental implant process, and it is vital to the success of your dental implants. In order to hold your dental implants firmly in place for the long-term, your bone must grow fully around the implant posts. Dr. Wilcox will monitor your progress as you heal.

After your jaw bone has fused with the implant post, the next and final step in the dental implant process is the procedure to place your permanent replacement tooth, or crown. Although you will be fitted with a functional temporary crown after your post is inserted, your permanent replacement tooth is designed to look, feel and function like your natural teeth.
